Hello,
First post!
I've been looking for a bike that is a bit classic but affordable, and also simple enough to mess about with. Not into racers and can't afford a classic Triumph or a Ducati. I wasn't really looking for a bike since I let go of the idea a few years back but when a little red KH100EL popped up in "honest" condition. and quite cheaply, I had to jump on it.
Currently I'm getting it up to a roadworthy condition since it hasn't been registered in 9 years and has no plates. Runs very well and is in goodish knick. But, there are a few things to do and I'm wondering if you folks could help me out:
Desperately seeking ignition switch + keys. I'm finding kh 100 ignition switches on ebay but I'm having difficulty identifying the right one. My Kawasaki is a 1979 KH100EL according to the plate and half broken badging. On the plate is says KH100A and somewhere there is a 'G7' (which I thought was a mid to late eighties model but there you go).
So:
- How do ID these things? Is counting the wires and matching the colours a 'way'. Does this look like The One
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290350...=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_5253wt_1083
- If no, do you folks know a good place to source one? I'm keen to get it one the road in the coming weeks.
- What are the best products for removing light speckled rust from the chrome? I want to bring this thing back into shape.
I also need to work out why the lights aren't working but I'll get to that soon. Hopefully nothing much at all. Replacement tank is on the way from Indonesia and I'm excited to get on this thing while it's summer here in Aus.
I look forward to hearing what you have to say and contributing here if a motorcycle plebeian can.

welcome
from memory I would say on an EL the ignition switch would be similar from 76-81, it was only the later kh's that had a clock pod, your switch is seperate....is that right.
lights could be down to ignition switch _________________ Prongs!

Thanks for all the replies and welcomes!
As far as I can tell the EL ignition is indeed just a simple single barrel that mounts through a single hole next to the speedo. I'm starting to think that this one is it --> http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290350...:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I think I'll match the wires and take a gamble. Yep simonh, my fingers are crossed that the ignition will fix the lights.
Thanks for all your help, I'm sure there will be more. Come to think of it, I've been told the fuel tap needs a kit to replace the seals/washers/whatever you call them since it is leaking. Anyone know where I can source something like this? _________________ seize the carp |

I'll do a little before and after once I get to cleaning the chrome and switching the tank which is actually fine but I'm switching out because the it's a little worn with surface rust and I wan't her to really shine.
Oh, and if anyone has any ideas with regard to my ignition queries I'd love to hear from you.

There can't be too many differences if the switch looks the same, I'm sure we can sort something for you if it is incorrect.
