well this is the story of what happend to my bike at the north western rally
botom mount screw for the exciter coils snapped off at the backplate
the spacer must have come off when the screw moved back no sign of it must have got chewd up by the flywheel the exciter coils have had a collision with the flywheel to
they still have perfect resistance and think they would work if the wernt so beat up
and to cap it all something has cut the charging coil as well
last pic aint to clear of the flywheel

Unlucky that eric, but at least you know what is wrong , it will be intresting to see when you have converted over to points if it runs any better.

got a back plate off higgsy today charging coils fitted tonight exciter coils need fitting then we should be good to go will keep you posted  _________________ cheers

got it started but the bugger aint charging need to do more tests ran out of time work becons  _________________ cheers

gave up on the 400 set up and changed over to the points off the 250 working fine charging ok to just need to tweak the timeing but it is good to go for the northern  _________________ cheers

Thats got to be a good decision Eric.You can always cobble up a solution to a points related problem at the side of the road.With the cdi if that packs up at the side of the road you are bollocksed.Just a little routine maintenance will keep it in fine fettle and you should see no difference in performance.
