Hi Lads,
just been to see 250 and 400 today
The 250 is just a parts bin but the 400 has potential but I need a few questions answering please:
The 400 has been standing for 20ish years so I am worried about the crank seals. How much will it cost for a crank rebuild?
It has a good set of 250 exhaust pipes fitted will it run all right with these on?
It also has a 250 airbox fitted will it also run ok with this on?
thanks in anticipation Phil.

Don't worry about crank seals until it doesn't run properly, bikes which have stood longer have been fine, others go at the drop of a hat. Chris Ritchie is yer man for cranks.
If the exhausts are good, you could trade them for some proper 400 ones. the airbox should be fine, but check it has the right carbs and inlets... seein as it's a bitsa.
Carbs should have a throttle stop on the side (cable only on the top) as an easy check. _________________ :

£300 for the crank £50 for the seal kit
like brian says though could be a bitsa with the 250 pipes on and air box
400 pipes like rocking horse poo and will cost ya if you find a decent set
get some piccys and the frame and engine number
chees

Thanks lads,
As far as I have been told, The bike has done 9000 miles, then was parked in a work shop for 20 years or so, The 400 pipes were f**ked expansion pipes and it had K & N filters fitted. The bloke that is selling the bike then got a 250 to swap the parts over, hence the 250 exhausts and air box. And why there is a 250 bitsa with the deal. The wheels have been re laced with new rims and the rest of the chrome is very good standard condition. The bloke has a lot of projects on so this one had to go. ( I know this I was in his garage )
The question I still need answering is will it run OK with the 250 parts.
Cheers Phil. |

while a lot of things are interchangable from 250 to 400, the exhausts would be surely baffeld different and the airbox is not the restricted kh4 type,...how can we say it will run ok?,
if its a lot of dosh and dosnt run, thats your pidgeon once its in yer van !,
dont expect even after crank rebuild for it to be all ok, there will be a lot of fine tuning and cleaning, trials and testing without the correct parts on it,,..good luck if you buy it, |
