Shift Drum Movement in Mossy HeadHouston, we have movement :-D :-D :-D
I pulled the shift shaft back and removed the clutch hub. Then I bathed the end of the shift drum with PB Blaster and sprayed a good amount of PB Blaster in the overflow vent ,let stand 1/2 an hour. I got on the end of the drum with needle nose vise grips and now it shifts like a new one through all 5 and neutral :thumright: :thumright: :thumright:
Now if only I can get the destroyed clutch actuator out and easy out one broken off screw I may not have to split the cases ,at least for now... pics to follow :-D

reckon i would still split the cases Tim.If the shifter drum was seized what hope for the crank seals and main bearings :smt102 :thumright:

tim, i've never managed to get a knackered one out, without splitting the cases. The hard work to split the cases is already done, takes longer to do the clutch than it takes to split and refit cases :thumright: well it does me anyway :thumright: there is a oilfeed behind the clutch basket, with a single crosshead screw, you need to remove before splitting cases

Progress made in Mossy HeadToday,
I managed to get the shift drum freed up with liberal application of PB Blaster in the vent hole and around the end of the drum. The transmission shifts quite well on the bench now. I drilled the screw out and then broke off a tap in the hole( dammit) I cut a slot in the tap and impacted it out with the hand held impact :D :D :D
I also fought the good fight with the seized clutch actuator and removed the remnants.
Here's some pics.
I also managed to get done some of the bead blast work I have contracted with PHR.
The rh side with the shifting shift drum :
The lh side shows little evidence of the amount of cursing and sweating ,not to mention the abraded and mashed fingers it took to get the top screw out. The hole still needs to be chased. I'll be heading to a tool store tomorrow to get a new 6mm x1.00 tap. But The 3 or 4 threads I managed to get in before my well worn cheap POS tap broke is enough to start the screw for display purposes.:
This used to be the innards of a clutch actuator:
The 350 clutch basket does not rub the primary gear :
The KH 400 clutch basket contacts the edge of the primary gear:
I suppose this is the reason for the 2 different primary gear part numbers.
And finally : Any one in need of an extra plate machined inner clutch hub for an H2 ???
Fun was had by all ,my 1st day in the shop in almost a week due to the LBSU's convalesence from knee replacement surgery.
Thanks Simon and all the rest for the advice. I'll be pretty much on hold for parts now as the wheel ,KH 400 primary gear and KH 400 clutch actuator are not here yet. But I have plenty of cleaning to do

but now I think of it, those clutch actuators rarely come out without a fight.. unless you loosen the engine studs first.
