S3 Ignition switch

Hi Guys

Just on the home straight on a 'budget' resto of a '74 S3 (Non standard, ARE wheels and allspeeds); put battery on tonight and found that my ignition switch is knackered.
I've taken it apart but it's never going back together!
Anyone know if you can still get them?

I'm afraid not :(

I may have a used one without a key .

What happened to the KH400 did you ever cure the smoke problem.

Sold the KH and bought an RD400; opened last months CMM and found this S3 advertised as a KH400 only 10 miles from me; nice guy who'd owned it for 17 years but didn't really know anything about it; I agreed to buy it unseen for more than the asking price (great negotiator!) and was pleasantly surprised with what I found!

Following on from this; I've got the switch to bits; does anybody know if it's possible to remove the tumblers so that it can be switched? (My one is stuck in position two and something has given up the ghost!

Yes you can switch the tumblers around but getting a good combination is still quite tricky and matching a specific key without leaving some out is very rare, you would usually need several locks to mix match.

With a little patience you can get them back together.

They do occasionally turn up at Autojumbles, if it looks the same then it is the same.

Alternatively I'll give it the Wolfie treatment if you pass it on along (every last little bit of it) with any keys you might have.

That's very kind of you Wolfie! :o
I've got the switch completely to bits so that I can see 'up the hole' from the bottom of it when the key goes in from the top, but I can't see how to get the bottom off to remove the tumblers completely; the bike will hardly ever get used let alone be left anywhere so I'd be happy to turn the switch with the proverbial screwdriver or any other object!  Any guidance as to removing the bottom part?

theres two little tangs, just bend them out and it'll fall off

Sorry to sound like a numpty but I can see the metal rectangular part which obviously turns the switch and what looks like an incomplete circular piece (1mm or so gap in it) Is this the part that needs prising apart as it's all I can see!

Finally sussed it (even though I should be at work!)
Removed all the tumblers, all back together.......and works!
Anybody got a fancy small screwdriver I can use to start it!!
Thanks for all your help as always.

i see where you were now!  just get a small key, no one would be wiser 8)

Well done that man, you won't be the only one at a Rally with an ignition screwdriver....

one Year I packed everything into the box as usual, got to the Rally, ignition key still on kitchen units at home, Doh!

First person I asked, first key tried.. fitted straight in there!
TallyBS2

Try the key off a SPAM tin, I have done that before with good results.
