Pistons stuck in boreFinally got in the shed..... One of my 400 pistons is stuck tight on the top of the barrel, ie the bottom ring is corroded to the liner, poss piston itself to the bore too.
Best ideas for getting oot please :smt102

Is the others all loose? You can try a piece of PVC the size of the bore cut about a 1/4" above the top of the cylinder, put the head on it, install the bolts and use the head to break it loose.

its a storage problem, by 'PO'. The piston is in the bore, the top of the piston and both rings are out the bore. bottom ring resting on top of cylinder corroded to liner, piston same inside...you get me

chuck it in a bucket of diesel for a week then get a bit wood to fit up the barel and give it a tap with a hide mallet

yeh the shock effect of pouring the boiling water on and the sudden expansion is what does the trick.although the heatgun will get the material to the same temp,the warm up is gradual allowing all the parts to expand together,leaving you where you started.

I'll try the boiling water trick, as its baltic outside might even be better.
the barrel is off bottomend so no worries there :thumright:

nope bottom ring is corroded to top of bore, tight...doh diesel bucket me thinks
