Jet needle settings S3A

I have been tuning on my S3a 400.  I have recently installed UNI filters and 95 main jets.  I presently have 22.5 pilots in the carbs with a set of 25's on order.  I am running Denco street chambers, and Purple Haze modified cylinder ports and pistons . The jet needles are on the second groove. Is the second groove the place for them to be or a good starting point?  When I get the 25 pilots in I will do some plug chops, however if the jet needles need to be raised or lowered I would like to do that when I put int the 25.0 pilots and then begin my plug chops.  What say you out there ????    :D  :D

Thanks professor, that's quite an assignment.  I believe we set the jet needles on notch two per Ron Reichert from Purple Haze.  The hyperlink to the carb settings charte indicates jet needle settings at the t 3rd groove for the S3 and S3A.

It is a good post, just a lot to digest.  I know that my carbs are squeaky clean, I have jetted up, to meed the demands for increased air through the UNI's.  I have synched the carb slides with q-tips laid on end and adjusted all slack out of the throttle cables so that they all pull at the same time.

I am still learning, however if someone out there has much the same set up that I have, I would be interested in your set up re: main jets, pilot jets, and jet needle settings.

personally i never change the needle, but i'm a WOT kinda guy :thumright:

I think its an individual thing, never seem to worry about the midrange, as that only gets used riding off my drive :D

yup, using same jets,
ran like a pig with needle at standard, so moved up and down, settled with down one notch as it sorted out the stumbling in mid range,...several thousand miles covered with no ill effects, nice brown plugs, although i've a feeling its ever so slightly on the hot side, always on the gas as Si sez,.... :thumright:
