Broken Tap... Doh!Would you Adam n Eve it, I've gone and broken a 6mm tap in an engine casing , there is a tiny amount sticking out but not enough to get any purchase.
Any ideas or tips on removing one of these hard little fookers from lovely soft aluminium?

It's right above the clutch, it's because I was having to steer around the clutch that it gave.
You can just see the gear stopper arm behind the mucky old rag.

steer around the clutch?
any chance of a longer distance picture, than can say a yes' recognise that? its so close ya cant tell what it is,
that rag shouldnt be in there,..
sounds like you'll hasve to drill it and use a reverse thread thing /tool,.

you could try a reverse drillbit and hope it bites in and pulls it out

get a 6mm nut and weld it to the broken tap through the middle then unscrew the tap with the nut gently while its still warm should come out
any one snaps a bleed nipple this works on them as well have salvaged 2 calipers this way

Kas had already suggested the weld trick but I was wondering what to use for masking (ie stop me welding or splattering the casing. Cheers Eric.
Erm what are you doing up and around today? (you should be laid up saying 'errrgghhhhh') did you have a good one?
Can you tell what it is yet?

Even though it is a twenty year old ten bob tap, I still think it'll see off any drill bit
It has served me well, and now served me right too... what a doylem.... don't tell Steve F, it's his early engine I'm building up!.

Many thanks to Ady and Eric, both added to the idea and it just popped out like a good un.
I can see this principle coming in handy for other potential disasters like broken studs.... yeah, I had one of those too a couple of weeks ago..
Masked off all the surface areas, put a 6mm nut over the end of the tap and put the MIG in there... all over before I knew it.
Thanks again Guys.

I'll pop round for them Steve, I can build them up but won't fit them until the top end is on, I could also do with a gear lever oil seal, kickstart oil seal and a cylinder stud (I noticed one has knackered threads)...
