A small adjustment can make a BIG difference!

After and during the ride out at the Southern rally one of the guys in the club had noticed the middle pot had been misfiring.
A weird one this as since the engine rebuild [all to standard spec]the middle exhaust always ran cooler and smoked more when warm  :smt102 .
The KH has now been run in but did start to slow on steeper gradients and had the acceleration of a wet fart
SO...............had some time off today and gave the the little beast the once over. Checked points timing with a timing gun[was a little out]and cleaned /checked spark plugs and spark...all OK.
As the plugs were a little rich looking and the middle one oily I decided to check and adjust the jet needle.
I moved the clip ONE position up and BLOODY HELL    took the bike out for a blast and IT DID
It's like a different bike so pleased with the change this small adjustment made so I thought I would share the experience

Hi Paul,
must have been running like a pig, my 400 is very suseptable to clip position change, stops all the bumping about when you get it right,  :thumright: had plenty of practice with jets and needle posi when changing to pods and spannies, what other mods you done to warrant a change from stock settings,.
can run too hot /lean if not re-adjusted the airscrews,.... :thumright:

Thanks Adrian :thumright: It's great when it all works out.

Was getting a bit miffed with the way it was running but the moral of this story is keep at it and it WILL come together :D

Hi 180kid,
The bike is all standard as far as i can make out.Standard filter and pipes etc.Not sure :smt102  about main jets as did have KN filters fitted when i got it a while ago and can not remember the size[standard as far as i can remember]
Still running a little rich at the moment but will have a plug change at some stage soon and will check.Just had a shock   on how well she went on the small change with no adverse effect.......SO FAR

Air screws set x 1 1/2 turns out................

Stock jetting and adjustments per the "manual"  is a "all around" safe spec, and supposadly (SP) supposed to work from sea level to 11,000 ft. Which of course can be way off.

It never hurts to do short ride "testing" of different settings, to find the optimal setting for your bike at your altitude and weather conditions.

Factory settings are rarely "spot on"..........
