HIGGSPEED

Glad it has gone to a good home there Eric, i am pleased you have got it now , because i just didnt get to ride it anymore with other things on the go, and it was a shame cos it is a cracking bike. I spent months fine tuning the carburation and the cdi system is spot on with new wiring and brand new pickups. Everyone that rode that bike said it pulled really clean with no flatspots. Sound the bollocks too. Also the loss of about 4 stone of rider weight will make it even happier
Ride it like you stole it!!

Yippee for you.  Keep us posted on your progress.  I installed a new seat cover on my 400 and am now replacing the front disc brake pucks. I replaced my point system with the Boyer Bransden electronic ignition about 7 years ago and it works great.  I might have a few parts from the old points system if you need them, not sure what I have but if you need something in this area, I can see what I have.

Cheers,  Tom

have been having shit loads of probs with hot starting sent the exciter coils to west country windings great service returned in a week put them back on today the resistance readings are spot on now and it starts hot or cold no problem result
180kid

thats great news Eric   but very unusual for rewinds to work, or just dont work from my experience,...

hope so bri will find out in the next 2 weeks weather i have a job or not
bricep59

well this is the story of what happend to my bike at the north western rally

botom mount screw for the exciter coils snapped off at the backplate

the spacer must have come off when the screw moved back no sign of it must have got chewd up by the flywheel the exciter coils have had a collision with the flywheel to

they still have perfect resistance and think they would work if the wernt so beat up
and to cap it all something has cut the charging coil as well

last pic aint to clear of the flywheel
BIG AL

Unlucky that eric, but at least you know what is wrong , it will be intresting to see when you have converted over to points if it runs any better.
you got a bargain there from patrick £35.00

cheers
Al
simonh

let me know what bits you need eric, i'll be in shed on friday
The Wolfman

That looks like a cheap British screw Eric.....

unlucky break, hope you get her sorted in time for the Northern.
bricep59

got a back plate off higgsy today charging coils fitted tonight exciter coils need fitting then we should be good to go will keep you posted
HIGGSPEED

was the flywheel ok i sent you too?
bricep59

looks ok dave will test it asap when i get the other coils on should be tomorrow
bricep59

got it started but the bugger aint charging need to do more tests ran out of time work becons
bricep59

gave up on the 400 set up and changed over to the points off the 250 working fine charging ok to just need to tweak the timeing but it is good to go for the northern
kas750

Thats got to be a good decision Eric. You can always cobble up a solution to a points related problem at the side of the road. With the cdi if that packs up at the side of the road you are bollocksed.Just a little routine maintenance will keep it in fine fettle and you should see no difference in performance.
180kid

with a non charging bike you should get a couple of wks riding without lights on,..dont ask how i know,  ok thats how my 400 rode for the last 3000 mls, dont use it much now, cant beat the eleccy ig when its working good,....
simonh

personally, and dont quote me on this could it could be complete bollocks

points take out the inconsistencies of the crank, all fire when they should, not on a mark on a badly timed crank

another reason why s3 is quicker than kh400
