2 stroke newbie with a KH250

I have a KH250 that I saved from the scrap pile. I am trying to do this project without spending too much money.

So far I have replaced the coils as 2 of the 3 were bad. There is also a large rust hole in one of the exhaust pipes but I was lucky enough to pick up some pipes on ebay at a decent price.

Now my biggest problem that I know of is the carbs. One of the jets got striped out and stuck inside the carb. I was able to get it out and hopefully I have it threaded to where it will work. I am still missing the jets for it and also during my cleaning process destroyed 2 of the carb floats. As far as I can tell they only way to replace these is to pick up some used carbs which I haven't had much luck with that so far on ebay.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to get repacement floats or even if floats from a different set of carbs that could work? Is this one of those thing you just suck it up and buy roundslides?

Thanks.
Rand

Hi mate, welcome,
getting to know the bike is all in the fun of it, get your hands dirty, much better then just buying and riding, parts are plentyful, electrics can be a woe, but check all connections as you go,..should be able to get some floats from board members,.and jets too,..250 parts still even turn up at auto jumbles
any specific probs let us all know,

Great it looks like it will be possible to get the parts.

I do have another question regarding the oil jet. Since this bike has been sitting out for years, is there a way to test the oil jet system before trying to fire the bike up?

Anybody have a spare set of carbs for the KH250 they would sell? I seem to be striking out with parts.

Or maybe someone knows of other carbs that are easier to get a hold of that will work?
The Wolfman

Welcome Rand.

We don't wanna sell you all the bits in one go, it'll take all the fun out it for you.

(and us too)

carbs are cheap and plentiful, whenever you see carbs advertised for 350s 400s (sometimes even 500s and 750s) they are often just 250 carbs...  you shouldn't have too much trouble finding some complete.

Good luck with it, hope to meet you out and about sometime on her.
The Wolfman

You can also spin the oil pump (after lifting it off the cases) with a drill and hold the cam right open to pump at max, you should see any little bubbles travelling along the pipes, the oil pumps rarely fail.
Random1111

Ah cool, thanks for the tip on the oil pump.

I have seen carbs listed for other bikes but I hesitate to bid on them. I would hate to pick up a set and find they are too big. What is the easiest way to tell?

250 carbs are the only triple carbs to have idle adjust on top of carb, next to cable.

apart from s1 250 which arelike mini s2/s3 carbs
